
Getting the Heat Right in Your PET Preforms
If you’re running high-speed lines like the Husky HyPET or Sacmi SBF 12/24, you already know the real headache. It’s usually not the blow mold causing the trouble—it’s the heat soak. When the infrared energy doesn’t actually get deep into the thickest part of the preform wall, you end up with a mess. Uneven stretching, thin spots in the bottle, and a lot of wasted plastic.
The trick to penetration
Most standard lamps waste a ton of energy on the surface. You get that annoying “burnt” exterior while the core stays cold. We do things differently. We tweak the filament and the quartz thickness to shift the light toward wavelengths that the PET polymer actually drinks up. It means the heat hits the center of the preform without scorching the outside. Simple, but it makes a world of difference.
Fitting them in
These are drop-in replacements. No fancy mods, no drilling, no headache. We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors, so they just slide right into your existing sockets. We also doped the quartz glass to handle the constant, rapid heating and cooling that comes with 24/7 production. The wattage and voltage match your OEM specs, but because the IR emission is tighter, you’re getting more “bang for your buck” out of every watt.
A few things to watch out for
Now, here’s the catch. High-penetration lamps pack a punch. That’s great for cutting down your cycle times, but it puts a lot more pressure on your oven’s ventilation. If you’re pushing the wattage to the limit to go faster, your cooling blowers need to be spotless. If your airflow is choked, the oven gets too hot. Before you know it, your preforms are warping before they even hit the mold. These lamps are built to take a beating, but they can’t do all the work. Keep your reflectors polished. If they’re dirty, it doesn’t matter how good the lamp is—you’re losing that penetration gain.
