It’s frustrating, it kills your momentum, and it’s usually caused by the same old story: mechanical stress and the constant heat-up, cool-down cycle that just wears the glass down. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we rebuilt our lamps for the Krones S24 and SIG platforms to actually take a beating. The technical side of things These are simple drop-in replacements. They fit the same footprint and pull the same electrical load as the OEM units, so you don’t have to mess with your settings. Now, shortwave IR lamps have to pump out a massive amount of energy to get those PET preforms ready for blowing. That puts a ton of pressure on the quartz. But here is a pro tip: if your cooling fans are clogged with dust, it doesn’t matter how good the lamp is. The heat will build up at the ends and fry the tube regardless. Keep those fans clear. Built to last (for real) We didn’t just use standard glass. We used a reinforced quartz blend that won’t bow or crack when things get hot. One of the biggest headaches with cheap lamps is the “end-cap pop,” where the electrode just gives up. We fixed that by fusing the electrodes deeper into the glass. It means your lamps can handle those rapid start-stop cycles without losing their vacuum. Plus, we used standard industrial connectors. You just wire them up and get back to work. No weird adapters, no fuss. What to expect on the floor The bottom line? You’ll spend a lot less time swapping lamps and a lot more time actually producing. Just remember that these aren’t magic. They’re tough, but they still hate dirt. If dust builds up on the quartz, it creates hot spots that can kill the lamp early. Keep the tubes clean, and these will easily outlast the standard parts you’ve been using.
